Peace: The Foundation of the 21st Century
American Muslim organization applauds US Government for Middle East peace agreement
Treaty signed in one of Islam’s holiest months
(WASHINGTON, DC) – The Islamic Supreme Council of America (ISCA) is proud to take the initiative to congratulate President Bill Clinton, Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, members of the White House, State Department, National Security Council and Capitol Hill, for their successful efforts in working to establish peace in the Middle East. We sincerely hope both concerned parties fulfill their respective obligations to ensure stability in the region.
"We at the Islamic Supreme Council celebrate the signing of the peace treaty along with the entire Muslim world, and we are hopeful that this is the beginning of a century of peace. We thank the American government for their mediation of such an historic, monumental event -- one that has finally brought the light of peace to Palestine and Israel," says Shaykh Muhammad Hisham Kabbani, council chairman, Islamic scholar and spiritual leader.
"It is significant that the treaty was signed in one of the holiest months of the Islamic calendar – the 7th lunar month of Rajab," says Shaykh Kabbani, "for it was in this month that the Prophet of Islam, Muhammad (peace be upon him), made the miraculous night journey to Jerusalem and Bethlehem. After visiting the holy sites of the Prophet Moses and Prophet Jesus (peace be upon them), he then ascended to the Divine Presence from the Holy Sanctuary of Jerusalem. As this was the month that the Messenger of Islam paid the highest respects to both Moses and Jesus, it is symbolic that such an important treaty was signed in it as well, emphasizing the importance of peace and brotherhood amongst all faiths and peoples, and mystically heralding the coming century as one in which love and tolerance prevail," says Shaykh Kabbani.
The Islamic Supreme Council of America lauds all individuals involved in this great achievement and is optimistic that this is the beginning of global peace initiatives. "We sincerely believe that this is the commencement for peace efforts around the Muslim world – in Kosova, Afghanistan, Kashmir, Iraq and Sudan," says Shaykh Kabbani. "We continue to condemn terrorism of all types, and we are optimistic that peace will be the foundation of the 21st century."
