In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Meeting with Turkish Prime Minister Erdogan ISCA Chairman discusses contemporary issues
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(WASHINGTON, D.C. 1/29/04) – On Tuesday, January 28, Shaykh Hisham Kabbani, chairman of the Islamic Supreme Council of America, met with His Excellency Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Prime Minister of Turkey and His Excellency Abdullah Gul, Turkey's Foreign Minister to discuss issues of importance to Muslims worldwide.
Shaykh Kabbani described the meeting as very productive, saying, "We were able to discuss key issues impacting Muslims today. It is clear that Turkey is an exemplary role model for the Muslim world, one which can lead the Muslim world in the arena of democracy, international relations and economic development, as well as on Islamic issues."
During the meeting, the three men discussed a proposal to bring together academics and scholars from around the world to discuss contemporary issues of concern to Muslims and explore ways to eliminate the sources of terrorism in all its forms - whether intellectual, cultural or ideological. They also discussed the need for the three Abrahamic religions – Judaism, Christianity and Islam - to come together in various venues to build bridges of understanding and to work together to resolve issues that cause friction among them.
