ISCA Observes Constitutional Referendum in Uzbekistan
January 2002

In January 2002, ISCA was honored to have been the only American Muslim organization to be invited to observe Uzbekistan's constitutional referendum. The invitation was a result of ISCA's long standing commitment to working with the moderate government of President Islam Karimov and supporting Uzbekistan's fight against religious extremism.

President Dr. Karim Tourk represented ISCA at this historic event, and was pleased to have the opportunity to meet with several of ISCA's associates throughout the region. President Tourk met with the Chairman of the Board of Muslims (left), as well as the Islamic University of Tashkent.

ISCA's relationship with the Uzbek government is also strongly related to the renewal and preservation of traditional Islam in Central Asia. Therefore Dr. Tourk's guides were also kind to offer him the chance to view the Quran of Sayyidina Uthman and many other holy sites.
